3 Key Series for Pirates in 2020

Usually, the MLB season is spoken about as a grind, like a marathon. But the 2020 season is going to be a strange one for the Pirates and every team. This season will be a full out 60-game sprint to the finish line for a championship opportunity. So it’s with that in mind that we present the three key series for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2020.

Key Series #1: 6 of 10 at Home against Brewers

The Pittsburgh Pirates, much like the Baltimore Orioles and the San Francisco Giants are going to struggle this season. Even in a shortened season, the Pirates won’t be able to pose a serious threat to the rest of the National League Central division. However, I like the Orioles and the Miami Marlins; the Pirates complete spoilers for the NL Central. The Brewers will be in the mix to try and win the NL Central. And if the Pirates can win the majority of these contests at home, they can knock the Brew Crew out of the NL postseason.

Key Series #2: 7 of 10 at Home against Cubs

Likewise, the Pirates can also put a dent in the chances of the Chicago Cubs. The Cubbies will venture to PNC Park for seven of their ten meetings with the Bucs. And like with the matchups against the Brewers, the Pirates can push the Cubs towards the middle of the pack by winning home games.

Key Series #3: 6 of 10 on Road against Cardinals

Now, where the rubber hits the road, figuratively and literally, is when the Pirates will head to St Louis. The Cardinals, like the Cubs, Reds, and Brewers will be in a battle for the NL Central crown. And any games that the Pirates win against their division rivals will help everyone else in the division. Pittsburgh has some young and talented players that will be trying to establish themselves in this shortened campaign. And a good showing in the road against the Cardinals will go a long way.
