MLB NY Yankees Yankee Game Recaps 2020

3 Takeaways from Yankees Opening Night

The 2020 regular season has finally begun, and the New York Yankees faced off with the defending World Champion, Washington Nationals. So for this piece, we will look at the three takeaways from the rain-shortened season opener.

Takeaway #1: Giancarlo Stanton Poised for Big (Short) Season

In the first inning of the first game of the 2020 season, Giancarlo Stanton blasts a 459-foot monstrous homerun off of perennial National League Cy Young candidate Max Scherzer. Stanton looks visibly slimmer, and the ESPN broadcast noted it. The Yankees are going to need a big season out of Giancarlo Stanton to reach their ultimate goal of winning the World Series. And after the first game of the 2020 season, Stanton looks prepared to deliver on the trade to New York.

Takeaway #2: Gerrit Cole Shows his Worth

Well, the 2020 season isn’t exactly what we would have expected back in March. But we now have the opportunity to enjoy Gerrit Cole. And in the first start, Gerrit Cole delivered. Over five innings of work, Gerrit Cole struck out five while walking only one and surrendering just one homerun.

The Yankees brought Gerrit Cole in to be the ace of the staff and to allow the Yankees to win each and every game. And on this opening night, Cole did precisely that and allowed the Yankees to pick up a 4 to 1 victory against the Nationals.

Takeaway #3: Aaron Judge Looks to Claim MVP

It may only be the first game of the season, but already Aaron Judge looks ready to make an impact. While facing one of MLB is toughest pictures in Scherzer, Aaron Judge delivered two hits, including an RBI. The biggest key for Aaron Judge is staying healthy, and Judge looks ready. In our predictions piece, we stated that Aaron Judge would be the American League MVP. And after one game, Judge has only reaffirmed his hunt for that award.
