Usually, the MLB season is spoken about as a grind, like a marathon. But the 2020 season is going to be a strange one for the Phillies and every team. This season will be a full out 60-game sprint to the finish line for a championship opportunity. So it’s with that in mind that we present the three key series for the Philadelphia Phillies in 2020.
Key Series #1: 6 of 10 at Home against Braves
The Philadelphia Phillies are a team on the brink of a serious run of contention. Playing in a shortened 2020 season might allow the Phillies to jump ahead. However, playing in the MLB East Conference will not be the easiest road as eight of the ten teams are capable of winning a postseason spot. The Phillies will find themselves hosting two of their most significant division rivals. One of those teams is the Atlanta Braves. The Phils will host the Braves for six out of ten games, and with the slight advantage, the Phillies offense will be able to capitalize on their ballpark.
Key Series #2: 6 of 10 on Road against Nationals
However, the team that is likely the biggest threat to the Phillies winning the NL East Division is the Washington Nationals. The Phils will be at a disadvantage when it comes to the season series against the Nats because Washington will host six of the ten games. If you’ve been keeping up with our three key series, series, then you know that we find home games crucial for a teams success. The Phillies will find that they host more games against their rivals. However, playing six of ten on the road against a team like the Nats will pose a serious challenge. But should the Phillies overcome the odds, then a postseason berth could be imminent.
Key Series #3: 6 of 10 at Home against Mets
And finally, the Phillies will host arguably their most hated division rival the New York Mets for six games at Citizens Bank Park. This series, much like the Braves series, will give the Phillies a slight upper hand during the shortened 60-game campaign. If the Phillies can muster out the lead in the victory column during this series, it bodes well for their postseason hopes.
