Usually, the MLB season is spoken about as a grind, like a marathon. But the 2020 season is going to be a strange one for the Rockies and every team. This season will be a full out 60-game sprint to the finish line for a championship opportunity. So it’s with that in mind that we present the three key series for the Colorado Rockies in 2020.
Key Series #1: 6 of 10 at Home against Giants
The Colorado Rockies always face a difficult challenge each and every season. Playing at an elevated altitude will affect the body. This season the Rockies will look to quiet the naysayers and win. However, winning will require things to go in their favor. One such favorable turn is the fact that the San Francisco Giants, likely the basement dweller of the NL West, will visit Coors Field six of ten times in 2020.
Key Series #2: 6 of 10 on Road against Dodgers
However, the Rockies won’t be as fortunate when it comes to the two biggest threats in the National League West Division. The Rockies will be on the road to face the Dodgers six times out of ten during the 2020 shortened season. Playing the Dodgers would already be stressful enough, but having to travel will make things that much more challenging for the Rox. Both trips to LA for the Rockies will come immediately after a home series. And a lot has been discussed how the body is affected in the Mile High altitude of Coors Field. Coming back down to sea level will place the Rockies behind the eight ball, if you will, making it that much tougher.
Key Series #3: 7 of 10 on Road against Diamondbacks
The Rockies will also find themselves on the road against the Arizona Diamondbacks. For Colorado, they will play seven games at Chase Field, giving their competition the advantage. Arizona and Colorado will likely be battling for second place in the National League West Division. But more importantly, they will probably be battling for one of the two National League Wildcard spots. It will be a difficult road and schedule for the Colorado Rockies. But should they gain the upper hand in this series, they will be better positioned for the postseason.
