Usually, the MLB season is spoken about as a grind, like a marathon. But the 2020 season is going to be a strange one for the Royals and every team. This season will be a full out 60-game sprint to the finish line for a championship opportunity. So it’s with that in mind that we present the three key series for the Kansas City Royals in 2020.
Key Series #1: 4 Game Set against Tigers (July 27th-30th)
The Kansas City Royals were a team that struggled during the 2109 season. KC would only manage to secure 59 victories. And as the 2020 season approaches, the Royals are still facing a long rebuilding process. Playing against the Detroit Tigers for the second series of 2020 will allow the Royals to beat up on one of the few teams that finished worse than they did in 2019.
Key Series #2: # Game Set against Pirates (September 11th-13th)
The September 11th series against the Pittsburgh Pirates will likely see each of the Central Conference’s basement dwellers. These two teams are unlikely to compete even in a 60-game season. So despite this series not representing a comfortable victory for either side. It will allow each team to take a breath and reset its approach for the shortened 2020 season.
Key Series #3: Final 4 Games of Season against Tigers
Once again, the Royals find themselves matched up to the Tigers. What makes this matchup so intriguing in the commonality between the two teams. Neither club is genuinely expected to compete in 2020 under normal circumstances. And even in a shortened season, the odds do not bode well in favor of either club. That being said, both teams will have an opportunity during the closing series of 2020 to make an impression on their fanbases for the future. Thus making this series a key for both franchises.
