Usually, the MLB season is spoken about as a grind, like a marathon. But the 2020 season is going to be a strange one for the Athletics and every team. This season will be a full out 60-game sprint to the finish line for a championship opportunity. So it’s with that in mind that we present the three key series for the Oakland A’s in 2020.
Key Series #1: 7 of 10 at Home against Angels
The Oakland Athletics have been a very competitive team over the past few seasons, and 2020 should be more of the same. As the 60-game schedule’s set up, the A’s are set to face the Angels ten times with seven of those meetings taking place at the Athletics home stadium. Anytime teams play at home, they have an advantage. Even if there are no fans in the stands, the team is better conditioned to the environment around them. And for Oakland playing in that expansive ballpark is going to aid them in playing winning baseball.
Key Series #2: 6 Interleague Games against SF Giants
One key series for the Athletics is their interleague matchup with the San Francisco Giants. The Giants aren’t likely to contend this season for World Series Championship. So playing six of their twenty interleague games against a team like the Giants gives the Athletics an advantage over other AL West teams. The series is split evenly in terms of the home and home status, but the Oakland A’s are the better teams. And being the better team, they should be able to run away with the series.
Key Series #3: 7 of 10 at Home against Astros
Very few would argue that the most competitive matchup for the Athletics will be the Houston Astros. The Astros, even given their vile sign-stealing scandal, are a formidable team. So the ten-game series that will be played in 2020 will be the most difficult for the A’s. Playing seven of those games at the Oakland Coliseum will give the A’s a slight advantage in 2020. The Athletics are going to provide the Astros with a difficult challenge in 2020, and playing this many against them at home will be a considerable boost.
