Usually, the MLB season is spoken about as a grind, like a marathon. But the 2020 season is going to be a strange one for the Astros and every team. This season will be a full out 60-game sprint to the finish line for a championship opportunity. So it’s with that in mind that we present the three key series for the Houston Astros in 2020.
Key Series #1: 7 of 10 against Mariners at Home
The Houston Astros will receive a reprieve in 2020 from the harsh punishment that would have befallen them during a regular season. However, now under the new structure forced by CO-VID19, the Astros will face less adversity. The Astros will play a sixth of their games against the lowly Seattle Mariners. Of those ten games, the Astros will play seven of them at home.
Key Series #2: 3 Game Set against Giants
The Astros, despite their previous cheating scandal, will still be a difficult club to defeat in 2020. The San Francisco Giants, like quite a few teams in the 2020 MLB West Conference, will be less than competitors for a World Series title. This means for the tough ‘Stros facing the Giants will give them an easy three-game set in the middle of the schedule. Now, an easy three-game set in the middle of August may not seem like much, but in a shortened 60-game season, every win matters.
Key Series #3: 2 Game Set against Dodgers (September 12th-13th)
This two-game set against the Los Angeles Dodgers will represent a significant mile marker for the ‘Stros. The two-game set will mark what is likely the final threat for the Astros 2020 schedule. Following these two games, the Houston Astros will face off against the Texas Rangers for seven games, the Mariners for three, and the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Diamondbacks are a team that, while being competitive, are likely not going to pose a threat to Houston. Should the ‘Stros make it to this series and get past the Dodgers, it will probably be smooth sailing for the Houston Astros to the postseason.
