3 Key Series for Yankees in 2020

Usually, the MLB season is spoken about as a grind, like a marathon. But the 2020 season is going to be a strange one for the Yankees and every team. This season will be a full out 60-game sprint to the finish line for a championship opportunity. So it’s with that in mind that we present the three key series for the New York Yankees in 2020.

Key Series #1: Opening Series against Washington Nationals

The opening series of the 2020 season for the New York Yankees is against the defending World Series Champion, Washington Nationals. Every regular MLB campaign, we hear the old cliché that every game matters. This opening series is crucial because with the shortened season, every game matters even more. The Yankees will likely have their newly signed Ace, Gerrit Cole facing off against Max Scherzer in a heavyweight bout. But getting off to the right kind of start is imperative.

Key Series #2: 7 of 10 games against Boston are in New York & 6 of 10 against Tampa in NY Too

The Yankees will play ten games against each of their AL East division rivals. But the two most significant rivals in the AL East are undoubtedly Boston and Tampa Bay. And while fans are unlikely to be in the stands to make a difference in the atmosphere. Playing at home for the Bronx Bombers adds a significant advantage. The Yankees will only seven of twenty games against their two biggest AL East threats away from the Bronx. And for the existence of the franchise, they’ve always played better at home.

Key Series #3: Final “Regular” Season Series against the Miami Marlins

Typically, this matchup wouldn’t be all that significant. However, with a short sprinted 60-game season, every game being of paramount importance. Playing the final games against a lowly team like Miami is enormous. These last three games that will take place at Yankee Stadium are likely going to give the Yankees those final victories to secure something. Closing the season against the Marlins can allow the Yankees to lock in the top spot in the AL East. Or New York can push for the best record. Possibly even be able to rest guys before the playoffs should they have everything secured by then.

Final Thoughts on the Yankees Schedule for 2020

No season is ever easy in Major League Baseball. And for the Yankees, it will not be an easy path to a championship. Yankees will face off against two legitimate threats in Boston and Tampa Bay, as well as a sleeper contender in Toronto. Then jumping over to interleague play and having to deal with the defending champion Washington Nationals as well as the Braves, Phillies, and Mets is no easy feat. But the Yankees are poised to make a run at the 2020 crown.
