3 Takeaways from Yankees vs. Orioles 3/8/2020

The Yankees would take to the field in a Split-Squad game versus the Baltimore Orioles from Sarasota, Florida. This piece will look at the three biggest takeaways from the game against the Orioles. If you’ve missed the Yankees Spring Training games, we’ve got you covered.

Team Battles

The New York Yankees have been known as a team the competes for a very long time. One of the organizational mantras is patience at the plate. And watching all of these games this Spring that has been evident. The Bronx Bombers preach working good at-bats all through their system. And all of the minor leaguers that play in these televised games have fought tooth and nail, as they say, and never give up an at-bat. This organizational focus on the process in the batter’s box will serve these young players as they advance in their careers.

Dynamic Young Arms

The Yankees GM, Brian Cashman, and staff have done a fantastic job cultivating a plethora of talent. Many of whom are not close to impacting the Major League roster. But those arms help in several ways. Whether they become trade chips or future residents in the Bronx, we’ll have to wait and see. But what we do know is the Yankees future is in good hands, or should I stay arms.

Thomas Milone: The 26th Man?

In this game, the Yankees high in hits and RBIs was Tommy Milone. Milone would deliver three hits, including a homerun and drive in three. New York will begin the season with a depleted outfield from a name-value perspective. (Aaron Judge Right Rib Fracture; Giancarlo Stanton, Right Calf Strain.) And the Yankees current outfield depth chart reads pretty shallowly with only three legit outfielders. So Tommy Milone becomes an attractive candidate for an early-season call-up to the Bronx. The Bronx Bombers will likely need to see a little more offensively beyond this game from Milone to warrant sure a promotion. But the Yankees injury concerns may open the door for someone like Milone should anything else happen this Spring.
