It’s no secret that the New York Yankees failed to achieve their goal this season. Winning the World Series has been the only goal from this organization since 1973 when George Steinbrenner purchased the team from CBS Corp. And while extremely successful over that time capturing seven World Series Championships. The Yankees failed to make a World Series appearance in a decade for the first time in a century. So the Yankees will need to make some moves. So we list a few players that can and will be on the move by the start of the 2020 season.
Clint Frazier
The New York Yankees are poised to have success in 2020. But they will be dealing with decisions on who will man their outfield. Clint Frazier is a name that will likely garner a lot of interest this offseason as he is a talented young player that was once a highly-touted prospect. These types of athletes are not easy to come by during trading opportunities because of their perceived value. However, the Yankees will have a number of candidates to choose from to hold down left field at Yankee Stadium. Clint Frazier could find himself on the move and in return bring another starting pitcher back to the Bronx.
Didi Gregorius
Now, it’s difficult to put a player on the Yankee Block when Gregorius is a free agent. However, Didi is in a unique position as he is likely to receive a Qualifying Offer from the Yankees. This would return Didi back to the Yankees for one more season if that offer is accepted. Should Didi accept, the Yankees could look to make some sort of deal to free up the shortstop spot for the in-house candidate, Gleyber Torres. Or the Yankees could pursue free agent and MLB Superstar, Francisco Lindor.
Greg Bird
Greg Bird was supposed to be the heir apparent at first base following the retirement of Mark Teixeira. But because of an inability to stay healthy, Bird is on his last perch. The Yankees front office was Greg Bird to be successful. Because a healthy and productive Bird helps balance the Yankees extremely righty heavy lineup. With the emergence of Luke Voit, Bird becomes less of a necessary commodity. (Despite Voit being another righty bat.)
