The New York Yankees are currently sitting in first place in the American League East. And with this team and that placement comes the expectation of a World Series victory. So we will look at moves the Yankees can make to bolster the team by July 31st.
The most well-known secret in the industry is that the Yankees need starting pitching. The Yanks starting rotation has dealt with injuries and inconsistency. And while many options on the market are of the rental variety, the Yankees will need to explore all avenues. Whether pursuing Madison Bumgarner, Max Scherzer, Marcus Stroman or any other available starter the Yankees but find another option. And if we are looking honestly at what the Yanks currently possess in their starting rotation, they could use two starters.
The Yankees came into the 2019 season with arguably the best bullpen in baseball history. And for the most part this season they have performed as expected. Word would also be received that Luis Severino may be used as a reliever once his injury rehab has completed. Dellin Betances is also reportedly on the mend. Adding these two stud arms, once healthy, will give the “Bronx Blazers” even more added firepower.
But the Yankees should also look to the bullpen market for aid as well. Starting pitchers can be very expensive on the trade market. And at times relievers are acquirable for dimes on the dollar compared to starters. Arms like Will Smith from the San Francisco Giants, Kirby Yates of the San Diego Padres, Mychal Givens of Baltimore could provide a bit more depth to the Yankee pen.
It has been no secret that the Yankees are having a magical year. The Bronx Bombers have dealt with a plethora of injuries to twenty-plus different Yankees. From superstars to role players the injury bug has bitten everyone. However, when looking at the single July 31st trading deadline the Yankees are going to get stronger in the final march to October. And they will get stronger even without making a move.
No matter the direction the Yankees choose to go there will be improvements to the roster. So whether by trade or health the Yanks will be poised to make something incredible happen this season en route to championship number 28.
