So yesterday on the latest episode of the Basement with Zach, Zach in speaking about Spider-Man Far From Home spoke about the “Multi-Verse.” And that idea spurned a thought in my mind. That thought being, what other Superhero entities could come together, given the concept of a “Multi-Verse.” So for this piece, we look at five Superhero Crossover Movie ideas.
Basic Concept for Crossover Movie Ideas
But before we dive in let’s go over the basics of this crossover concept.
- The Superheroes being put together can be from any realm. So we CAN have DC characters teaming with Marvel characters.
- A general concept for the movie will be presented — the type of genre and basic plotline for the film.
- And a rating must be given to the movie. (I.E., PG-R)
Deadpool & Spider-Man (PG-13)
So one of the first ideas that came to my mind for this topic was having Deadpool and Spider-Man team up. Throughout the comics, these two have a weird but fun relationship with one another. With that in mind having DP and Spidey together for what would be the equivalent of a superhero “Buddy Cop” comedy would be awesome. Yes, because of Spider-Man’s involvement, the film would need to be PG-13. But Deadpool began testing those waters with Once Upon a Deadpool.
As far as the plot of the movie goes, we could have both DP and Spidey chasing after the same villain. They would initially run into one another, allowing the villain to get away. Then they reluctantly decide to work together to stop the bad guy. Throughout the movie, though Spider-Man would be having to stop Deadpool from attempting to “permanently” stop people.
Batman & Daredevil (R)
Another idea would bring together two brooding heroes with a pension for nighttime activities, Batman and Daredevil. Both the Bat and the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen have a way of striking fear into their enemies. And both men are built on a level of realistic possibilities in terms of fighting ability. So this team up must incorporate both men’s desire to see righteousness prevail. While both struggling not to cross “the line,” they could both easily cross.
The movie would be simple enough and could incorporate two of their villains working in tandem as well. Wilson Fisk could team with the Riddler which would instantly link both heroes. Fisk and Riddler could be trying to launch an initiative to take over the both Hell’s Kitchen and (the fictitious city of) Gotham. A villainous tandem effort requires an equal measure of good from the heroes. And with the violence and language involved the film would be rated R.
Green Arrow & Hawkeye (R)
This may sound completely unappealing as both characters are each other’s equivalent in their respective universes. And honestly, they can be overlooked at times or mistaken for boring or corny. But the skill of archery has a unique appeal to it and therefore something I think could work in combination with one another. The Arrow television show and Avengers Endgame changed the mindset for many as far as these two characters are concerned. And it could help both going forward with a well put together story.
Now the idea that came to my mind would be different than the rest. The two archers would be invited to compete for the prestige of “THE Top Archer.” Only for it to be a setup by Malcolm Merlyn, Ronin, and Ra’s al Ghul the leader of the League of Assassins (Shadows) to capture both men. Both archers would need to work together to escape the clutches of the League and take them down. Like the Batman/Daredevil team up this film would also need to be rated R for violence and potentially language.
Batman & Ironman (PG-13)
Let the Battle of the Billionaires commence. Bruce Wayne and Tony Stark are two of the richest in superhero and comic book history. And both have a level of intelligence, Stark being the more scientific minded of the two. While Bruce Wayne is known as the “World’s Greatest Detective” has a bit more of the “street smart” style of intelligence.
In order to make a believable film in which these two team up a similar Superhero movie trope would need to be employed, the world is in danger if they don’t work together. Pepper Potts, Jarvis, and Alfred would all play a big role in getting these two stubborn bulls to cooperate. A plotline resembling Infinity War/Endgame would be a big enough threat to the existence of life on the planet for them to team together. Because both men try to do the right thing and honestly the success of Infinity War and Endgame a PG-13 rating would be more than substantial for this crossover.
Deadpool & Deathstroke (R)
From all of the ideas that came to mind about this topic, this idea intrigued me the most. Deadpool is a parody of Deathstroke. Wade Wilson mocks Slade Wilson. Both men are adept with swords and guns. Both men have a pension for violence and honestly delight in that pension. And that idea makes this, even more, a necessity in my mind.
This superhero film idea, unlike the others, is not a team-up film but rather an adversarial one. Deathstroke and Deadpool would cross paths, and this would incense Deathstroke. And in the act of retribution for the perceived slight by Deadpool, Deathstroke would kill Vanessa. (She was brought back to life at the end of Deadpool 2, and I’m not sorry that I spoiled that for you. If you haven’t seen Deadpool 2 by now, first of all, SHAME ON YOU. And secondly WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?????) And if you watched Deadpool 2 then you know the lengths Wade Wilson would go to in order to exact revenge on Slade Wilson. It goes without saying, but I’ll say it anyway this movie would be rated R for the amount of violence this movie would contain, as well as for the probable drug references and extremely foul, hurtful, and offensive language.
