The long-awaited pro wrestling event of the year All Elite Wrestling’s (AEW) Double or Nothing aired on Saturday night. And it was an incredible event. So let’s waste no time, and we recap AEW Double or Nothing.
Buy-In
Casino Battle Royale
Laracuente Ledger Rating: 3/5
Actual Winner: Hangman Adam Page
The battle royale is a fun specatale to begin getting a racous crowd even higher. Each man that was in the contest was getting their momewnt to shine. The battle royale featured many competitors of different styles. So many different type competitors, we would see legends like Billy Gunn and Tommy Dreamer. And new stars like Joey Janela, MJF, and the biggest star in the making “Hangman” Adam Page. The final two would seemingly come down to Luchasaurus and Hangman Adam Page. Until MJF would re-emerge and try to take out Page. Adam Page would walk away the victor.
Sammy Guevara vs. Kip Sabian
Laracuente Ledger Rating: 3.5/5
Predicted Winner: Kip Sabian
Actual Winner: Kip Sabian
Sammy Guevara and Kip Sabian are two of the rising stars in the wrestling business. Both wrestlers are packed full of charisma and athleticism. Both men would put their ability on full display to build the hype for Double or Nothing. Guevara would hit a Shooting Star Press onto a proned Kip Sabian on the guardrail.
Main Card
SCU (SoCal Uncensored) vs. Strong Hearts (Cima, T-Hawk, El Lindaman)
Laracuente Ledger Rating: 3.75/5
Predicted Winner: Strong Hearts
Actual Winner: SCU
The team from OWE is something special. And this would be a national display of their talents. The opening moments of the matchup would a back and forth feeling out process. SCU is a well-oiled machine and puts that on full display. But Strong Hearts would also display their insanely awesome talent. Scorpio Sky is one of the most talented athletic specimens in the wrestling business. The pace would quicken, and the crowd would go crazy.
Women’s Fatal Four Way: Kylie Rae vs. Nyla Rose vs. Britt Baker vs. Awesome Kong
Laracuente Ledger Rating: 3/5
Predicted Winner: Britt Baker
Actual Winner: Britt Baker
The matchup would get a surprise entrant, and it would be Awesome Kong. The women involved in the first women’s match in AEW would look to set the bar high. All four women in the match would have an opportunity to control the matchup. We would see a massive tower of doom spot. And the three competitors would team together to take out Awesome Kong. This was a very good contest in which each competitor was able to make an impact. Ultimately, Britt Baker was the winner.
Best Friends vs. Angelico & Jack Evans
Laracuente Ledger Rating: 4.25/5
Predicted Winner: Best Friends
Actual Winner: Best Friends
A part of the mission statement of AEW tag teams were being given a spotlight. Angelico and Evans would dominate much of the early part of the match. But The Best Friends would make a serious comeback. Only to be stopped by the high flying tandem of Angelico and Jack Evans. This was a really good and fun tag team match.
The lights would go out, and several masked men would attack the two tandems of Best Friends (Chuckie T, Beretta) and Angelico and Jack Evans.
6 Women Tag Team Match: Hikaru Shida, Riho, Ryo Mizunami vs. Aja Kong, Yuka Sakazaki, Emi Sakura
Laracuente Ledger Rating: 4.5/5
Predicted Winner: Aja Kong, Yuka Sakazaki, Emi Sakura
Actual Winner: Hikaru Shida, Riho, Ryo Mizunami
This contest would be exciting and something different than the other women’s matchup on the night. I found myself captivated by the aerial ability and the storytelling of all the women. The transitions and smoothness of the women was evident throughout the entire contest. This match would feel like a straight-up slugfest.
Cody vs. Dustin Rhodes
Laracuente Ledger Rating: 6.5/5
Predicted Winner: Cody
Actual Winner: Cody
So the entrances would begin with a throne (cough, cough, HHH) and a sledgehammer. And in a pre-event build video promo, Cody would say that he is here to end the “Attitude Era.” Thus Cody would take that iconic sledgehammer and smash the throne.
This was a match that I was really looking forward to, and it delivered from the opening entrance. And before the two men would even lock up, the crowd would chant “this is awesome.” Cody would control the early part of the matchup. Dustin would seemingly not have missed a step. Cody would then regain control using some less than moral actions. We would even see Brandi deliver a spear on the outside to Dustin. And referee Earl Hebner would throw Brandi out. We would then see a beaten and viciously bloody Dustin Rhodes. The commentary team would tell the story of Dustin being blinded by the blood pouring. Cody would show a sadistic side. The ring would be covered by the sea of blood from Dustin’s head. An incredible matchup, no other way to describe this match.
AAA World Tag Team Championships: Young Bucks vs. Lucha Bros
Laracuente Ledger Rating: 6.5/5
Predicted Winner: Â Lucha Bros
Actual Winner: Young Bucks
This tag team match would pit the two best tag teams on the planet against one another, the Lucha Brothers and the Young Bucks. The opening moments would be a feeling out process in which both teams would be so even. And the crowd would eat it up chanting “tag team wrestling.” Both brother tandems would display the incredible and insane talent that makes them the best. Rey Fenix is fantastic, and the type of offense he is able to deliver it is unparalleled. The Young Bucks and the Lucha Bros would bring to light what makes tag team wrestling so special.
Alpha vs. Omega II: Chris Jericho vs. Kenny Omega
Laracuente Ledger Rating: 7/5
Predicted Winner: Â Kenny Omega
Actual Winner: Chris Jericho
And as one would expect, the main event would be everything we could’ve dreamt and more. There is a reason why these two men would be front and center for the first main event in AEW history. Both Omega and Jericho are two of the greatest ever to step foot in a wrestling ring. And while the world expected Kenny Omega to be victorious, Chris Jericho would prove why he’s among the legends of this business.
Following the match, we would see the emergence of Jon Moxley (fka. Dean Ambrose.) And Moxley would waste little time and attack everyone. Moxley would drop Jericho, Omega, and even the referee with Double Arm DDT’s. What a way to close out an epic show.
Overall Double or Nothing Rating: 4.67/5Â
What an incredible event. If you are a fan of pro wrestling, then you have to watch All Elite Wrestling’s Double or Nothing event. Every match on the card was something unique and special. If you haven’t become a fan of AEW by now, then you can not call yourself a fan of pro wrestling.
