There are many streaks and trends during each week of the MLB season. So we continue looking at teams trending in the right and wrong directions.
1 Up: New York Yankees
A team beset with injuries and yet somehow keeps on winning. The New York Yankees are playing an incredible brand of baseball. The Bronx Bombers are lighting up the scoreboards in ways besides the long ball. Over their last ten games, the Yankees are 9-1 and have a +61 run differential. It has been a challenging season to navigate so far because of the injuries. Currently, the Yankees have 14 players on the Injured List. Some of whom should be returning soon. While others not so close. But regardless, the Bronx Bombers have played team baseball and doing the fundamental things to win ballgames.
1 Down: Baltimore Orioles
Coming off a four-game set against the aforementioned New York Yankees, the Baltimore Orioles dropped every game. To say that the Orioles are struggling this season would be a massive understatement. As a team, they have already given up more than 100 home runs and have a negative run differential (-108.) Over their last ten games, the O’s have dropped nine and are in the midst of a six-game losing streak. This team is packed full of youngsters. As well as a new front office regime that is trying to change the stagnant culture that has resided in Baltimore for the last several years. It will be a long Summer in Baltimore.
2 Up: Minnesota Twins
A team not expected to be a force was the Minnesota Twins. And yet here they stand atop the MLB American League Central Division. Over their last ten games, the Twins are 8-2. And have a +90 run differential this season. The Twins have a young ballclub that has many players developing into superstars. And this will be a fun season to watch it all unfold.
2 Down: Detroit Tigers
The Detroit Tigers are a rebuilding club and that’s putting it mildly. The Tigers find themselves with an overall record 18-29. And over their last ten games, the Tigers have dropped nine of them. And current the Motor City team has lost three straight games. The Tigers have a deficiency of 98 runs on the season.
3 Up: Miami Marlins
A club that I never expected to put on this list, the Miami Marlins have been playing good baseball. And yes, they still have an atrocious record of 16-31. Yes, they are 11 games behind the NL East Division leading Philadelphia Phillies. And yes, the have a run differential of -82. But they make this list for the brand over baseball over this past week. The Marlins are currently riding the highs of a six-game win streak. And that deserves a shoutout.
3 Down: St. Louis Cardinals
The St. Louis Cardinals are a team that is shrouded in history and always looking to compete. However as of May 24th, 2019 they reside in 4th place in the NL Central. And the Cards are 4.5 games back and have only won three games in the past ten. The Cardinals are still over .500 and still maintain a positive run differential. But if the Cardinals continue playing at this pace their playoffs hopes will be dashed.
B.O.L.O: Houston Astros
Earlier this week we covered some players on the Astros playing up and down. But it goes beyond the players mentioned in that article. Over their last ten games, Houston has won seven of them and they possess a run differential of +90. This is a team that will contend and a team to respect as the season continues forward.
