The New York Yankees are in a unique position as the talent they possess on the Major League level is of World Series caliber. And beyond that, they have a top farm system as well. So we will look at three players that would top the wishlist.
# 1 Paul Goldschmidt
Positionally the Yankees are stacked and loaded at just about every spot. The outfield can be fielded by the likes of Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and Aaron Hicks. And not to mention Clint Frazier (when healthy) and an up and coming Estevan Florial. The infield is set at three positions (upon Didi’s return.) But the position that is questionable is that of first base. Currently, the first base job is set to be battled for by Luke Voit and Greg Bird, with the edge going to the former, given his performance late into the season and the playoffs. But if the Yanks could acquire someone of the talent and MVP caliber of Paul Goldschmidt the Bronx Bombers instantly become World Series favorites once again.
# 2 Madison Bumgarner
Pitching is always at a premium during the baseball season. And it was pitching woes that derailed the Yankees playoff hopes. So it would behoove the Bombers to reinforce the starting rotation. While Madison Bumgarner is currently in the city by the bay, a trade is possible with the San Francisco Giants. The Yanks would have to give up some quality talent from their farm system. But Yankees GM Brian Cashman has done a tremendous job stacking the farm with loads of talent. Talent that the Yanks could move for a difference maker like Bumgarner.
# 3 Jose Berrios
Ok, so I know I’m kinda pushing the limit of “wishlist” into fantasy type levels with this selection. But Berrios is a dynamite arm and has the makings of an Ace. With that, I want young and controllable arms at the Major League level in my Yankees rotation. And Jose Berrios would provide exactly that. However, acquiring someone like Berrios would cost a lot, but in my opinion, he gives a lot in return.
Now let’s be clear I don’t think all of these players are available for trade. But if somehow Brian Cashman was able to swing deals for any or all of these players the Yankees would be near certainty for the 2019 World Series.
