4 Dream Matches For WWE Evolution

The idea of having an All-Women’s PPV special has long been warranted by WWE in my opinion. The talented superstars in WWE’s Women’s Division are some of the most talented and athletic in the history of the WWE. While the feuds and superstars of yesteryear were talented, it has been taken to another level in today’s WWE Women’s Division. So with WWE Evolution happening in one months time on October 28th, let’s set up four dream matchups for WWE Evolution.

Side Note:
As I stated in my article a few weeks ago “Renee Young Making History on Monday Night RAW” I believe that the commentary team for WWE Evolution will consist of Renee Young and Stephanie McMahon. With a possibility of Beth Phoenix, prior to her competing.

I am not going to try and predict the actual WWE Evolution card. But I will instead put together five matches that I would have made if I were booking WWE Evolution. Two matches for Evolution have already been announced will be “The Goddess” Alexa Bliss vs. WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus. I would have chosen to book Trish against another opponent, but I’ll get to that later. As well as Lita taking on Mickie James. And there is a rumor (as of this writing) that Ronda Rousey will face off with Nikki Bella. As well as potentially Maryse vs. Brie Bella, although this one is looking less likely after the debacle that was their participant at Hell in a Cell. Just check out our HIAC Recap.

Guideline For Selection Of Four Dream Matchups For WWE Evolution

While these are fantasy matchups for WWE Evolution, I will follow one simple guideline. All competitors will be active WWE Superstars or current WWE Hall of Famers. With former WWE Superstars that have are not currently competing for other wrestling promotions available as well. So as much as I would love to include Ivelisse, because I think she is one of the best wrestlers (male or female) on the planet today, she will not be on this dream match list.

Dream Match Number One: AJ Lee vs. Lita

Now, this is where the clarification of the guideline comes in. AJ Lee is a former WWE Superstar who retired from WWE. And to this point she has not competed for another wrestling promotion, thus making her eligible based on my criteria. AJ grew up idolizing Lita and it was made known throughout several occasions in AJ’s career. So if someone managed to convince AJ to come out of retirement to take on one opponent I would choose Lita.

These two women were both trailblazers in the Women’s division and deserve a lot of credit for how far the division has come. Plus as an added bonus the storyline booking for this match would be easy since AJ idolized Lita she wanted to be just like her. Both women would present themselves differently. The way they would dress in the ring and the way they wrestled was different than nearly all others during their times. So the matchup can be booked as “the Teacher vs. the Student.”

Dream Match Number Two: Charlotte Flair vs. Becky Lynch

This match is very likely to be happening at WWE Evolution. However, it is a match I would love to see again. Both of these Superstars are incredibly talented. And the story they told during their match at Hell in a Cell was awesome to watch. So seeing a rematch maybe with the addition of no disqualification or another stipulation could add even more intrigue to an already intriguing matchup.

Dream Match Number Three: Natalya vs. Ronda Rousey

Nattie Neidhart is one of the most underrated underutilized talents the WWE has at their disposal. And as one of the more technically savvy Superstars in the WWE’s employ, she has the ability to pull out the best in whomever she is wrestling. And while Ronda Rousey is still very green in the business, she has quickly succeeded at everything placed in front of her. This matchup could easily be set up as a betrayal and begin their rivalry. Having Ronda face off with Nattie will bring Rousey up to even higher levels of in-ring prowess.

Dream Match Number Four: Trish Stratus vs. Sasha Banks

As I said earlier Trish is slated to face Alexa Bliss. And while I love watching Bliss I would have booked Trish against Sasha. Ever since the first ever women’s royal rumble match in which Trish and Sasha stood face to face, I have pictured the moment the two would square off against one another. Trish and Sasha are very similar in style and demeanor in the ring. They both command a presence and the WWE Universe is drawn to both of them. The arrogant behavior of both women when playing a heel role is uncanny.

And the adoration when playing a babyface is unparalleled. Not to mention, that in the ring both women have the ability to sell like few others. And thus a match between these two women would elevate the division to not yet seen levels. And if I was in charge of booking this show, Trish Stratus vs. Sasha Banks would be my main event.

Unfortunate Truth

Sadly, these matches (except for Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair) won’t be happening. As previously stated, Trish will face Alexa Bliss and Lita will face Mickie James. The other sad fact of the WWE Evolution network special is the fact that Vince McMahon himself will be at the helm in Gorilla for this event. This fact has actually damped the spirits of many who were hoping to have this event be given the respect it deserves.

Although the lack of respect for the hard-working women in the WWE was made clear with the “Crown Jewel” event in Saudi Arabia just five days after WWE Evolution. We discussed the steps backward that an event like Crown Jewel means to the women of WWE.

Had Triple H been at the head station in Gorilla, Evolution would have a buzz about it like few network specials do. If you don’t believe me just go back and look at what Triple H has done with NXT. Or even more recently, since HHH took over 205 Live from Vince McMahon the show has been phenomenal. We will just have to wait and see how the event goes.

But many are fearful because it was Vince McMahon that decided to make James Ellsworth retrieve the first ever women’s money in the bank. And that decision by Vince left a terrible taste in the mouth of many fans that has yet to go away. But in the ring, we know the talented women of the WWE will put on a great show and I for one can not wait for October 28th.
