After last nights game, the New York Yankees have 12 games left this season. The AL East Division is still achievable, but that should be the goal. The Yanks must secure the first AL Wildcard spot. By securing the first AL Wildcard spot, the Yankees give themselves their best chance to advance in the playoffs.
If you have been watching at all this season, you know that the Bronx Bombers are a much better team at home than on the road. The Yankees will need to build on their 3-2 victory over the Boston Red Sox to gain ground and separate themselves from Oakland.
All Rise Here Comes The Judge
Aaron Judge returned to the Yankees lineup last night, and while he went 0-4, he hit the ball hard. And also Judge showed that his wrist is healthy enough to check his swing. (Even though the first base ump said Judge swung.) With Aaron Judge back in the lineup the Yankees have enough time remaining to get back into a groove and push the season to its final weekend against these very same Red Sox.
Cuban Missile Crisis No More
As was spoken of throughout the broadcast Yankee closer Aroldis Chapman is set to return before the conclusion of this Red Sox series in the Bronx. Chapman’s impending return further brings about good news for the Yankees as they will be at full strength once again. The Yanks have twelve games to find their stride for October baseball.
The Yankees have a couple of players who’s defense needs improvement. However, their offense is the caliber needed for the Bronx Bombers to succeed in October. Gary Sanchez and Miguel Andújar have the type of offensive skills that can carry the Yankees to victory on any given day. But their defense is still a work in progress. For Andújar it is his hesitation in the field that is presently the issue. The double clutch pump before he throws to a base. Or the hesitative half step back/forth when fielding are the woes that must be addressed in the offseason. And for Sanchez, the only negative on his catching game is his blocking ability. Everything else for Sanchez grades average or above. So the Yankees must find the formula as to if and/or when to pull these players for defensive upgrades like Adeiny Hecharrvia and Austin Romine.
If the Yankees can find the defensive balance and regain the offensive edge they had during the early part of the season. The Yanks are set for a deep run come October.
