3 Up and 3 Down: New York Yankees Edition 6/12

The New York Yankees have been victorious in many games this season. And despite not sweeping the “Subway Series” over the weekend they did win that series. And just like that series while most things have gone well over the past week not everyone has been great. We look at those players doing well and others who must step it up. Don’t forget to take a look at some of our past 3 Up and 3 Down coverage.

1 Up- Miguel Andujar

He’s “Getting Miggy with it” as John Sterling would say. Miguel Andujar has been playing like a man possessed. Over his last 7 games, Miguel has a slash line of .435/.519/.826 with 10 hits and 7 rbi’s. If we keep getting this level of production from Andujar, Brandon Drury becomes expendable at the deadline.

1 Down- Gary Sanchez

To say that Gary Sanchez has been struggling would be a massive understatement. Over Gary’s last 30 games he has a slash line of .069/.156/.103. Those are not typos! A lot has been speculated and talked about his struggles and what can be done to correct them. But for now, we just continue to see how just long this stretch will go.

2 Up- Giancarlo Stanton

While the rate stats like batting average may not look pretty over his last 7 games Stanton has hit 3 home runs. Over that same time frame, Giancarlo is slugging .571. Stanton has had some at-bats in which he looks like he’s getting locked in, and others that don’t have the same appeal. But when Stanton gets on a roll watch out, as he can go off on a tear.

2 Down- Jordan Montgomery

The new that Monty would be needing Tommy John Surgery couldn’t have come at a worse time for the Yankees as they are searching for starting pitching help. This news makes the job of Yankees GM Brian Cashman and his team that much harder. As everyone in the industry already knew that was the Yankees weakness, but now they can request a King’s Ransom in return. We will Monty a speedy and full recovery and we can’t wait to get him back on the hill.

3 Up- Aaron Hicks

Hicks has had an up and down kinda year, but recently he’s seen his average work it’s way back up. Over his last 7 games, Hicks is slashing .300/.391/.500, which will definitely help your average go up. The one part of Aaron’s game that never takes a break is his defense and he provides that for the Yankees every time he takes the field.

3 Down- Masahiro Tanaka

Well, this was that last thing the Yankees needed, was for another starting pitcher to go down. We just documented the loss of Montgomery and now Tanaka is lost due to the most ridiculous aspect of yester-year baseball. I am very much against pitcher’s batting. they give non-competitive at-bats and are constantly being hurt. And if the swing doesn’t get ya, the bases will, as they did to Tanaka. Even though Masa is on the 10-Day DL it will be a much longer time before Tanaka gets back. It more than likely won’t be until after the All-Star break.

B.O.L.O.- Didi Gregorius

The month of May was abysmal for Didi but with the new calendar month, he’s edging in the right direction. Didi has a batting average of .259 over his last 7 games which is a significant jump from the .151. Look for Didi to continue improving and getting back to driving the ball.
