3 Up and 3 Down: MLB Edition 5/29

Another week into the MLB season and some teams that are riding high and some aren’t. We look at those clubs now. And don’t forget to take a look back at some previously covered 3 Up and 3 Down: MLB Editions from 5/15 and 5/22

The lost of MLB Superstar Second Baseman Robinson Cano hasn’t seemed to adversely the Mariners chances of winning ballgames. The Mariners are 8-2 over their last 10 games. And although playing the rope heavy AL West division they are in second place. Just a game and a half behind the first place Houston Astros.

Pittsburgh has been somewhat of a surprise story so far in the 2018 season. They have amassed an overall record of 28-25. However, the Pirates have struggled over their last 10 games, as they have dropped 8 of those 10 games. While still in the race in the competitive NL Central Division they will need to start playing better to remain in the hunt.

Though things didn’t start out the way the LA Dodgers would have liked they have begun to turn around. As the Dodgers are now just 3.5 games behind the Colorado Rockies for first place in the NL West.

On the other hand in the NL West, the San Francisco Giants have gone the opposite direction. The Giants have a record of 3-7 over their last 10 games And stretching it out further their overall record is 25-28. The Giants are employing an “All In” strategy banking on a return of production from a lot of veterans. To this point, the strategy has them around .500 and only three games behind Colorado for the Division.

In the highly intense and competitive NL Central, the Milwaukee Brewers have taken hold of the first place spot right now. The Brewers are holding strong at 4.5 games ahead of the second place Chicago Cubs. The Brewers have won eight of their last ten games and are plus 38 in run differential for the season.

For a team that started out the MLB season flaming hot, the Diamondbacks have gone ice cold. For the second week in a row, they have found themselves on this list of the 3 Down. The DBacks have found themselves once again on the losing end dropping 9 of their last 10. And with injuries and ineffectiveness piling up the Snakes need a jolt to snap them out of this funk. That being said they are still just one game in back of the Rockies in the NL West Division.

The Nations Capital is playing host to some good baseball right now after a rocky beginning. The Washington Nationals have won six out of their last ten, but more importantly, they are now just one game out of first place. As the team that was supposed to run away with the NL East Division crown from the first pitch of the season on, the Nats struggled with injuries. Those injuries really hampered the club, but the club is starting to find it’s groove. And when the team gets fully healthy look out as they will be a strong force in an unexpectedly tough division.
