MLB NY Yankees

3 Up and 3 Down: MLB Edition 5/15

This 2018 MLB season is in full force. We have witnessed some amazing stretches of play. As well as some very difficult ones. We will recap some of the teams that have been making both positive and negative impacts on this season.

1 Up- New York Yankees

Yes, once again the New York Yankees have been MLB’s hottest team and have been winning games at an unbelievable rate. The Yankees lost two-games in a row last week. The two-game losing streak was their first losing streak since the first week of April. Then the closed out the weekend winning two more against the Oakland A’s. The Yankees have won 8 of their last 10 games. The Bombers are 28-12 through their first forty games for the first time since 1998.

1 Down- New York Mets

While the one New York team is still rising the other has fallen on very hard times. The New York Mets started out on fire as the season began. But have since been struck down by Mr. Freeze. And don’t forget that the Dark Knight became the Joker facilitating that the Mets traded Matt Harvey to the Cincinnati Reds. The Mets are still in the hunt in the NL East. But as the division has become much more competitive than anyone initially thought. The Mets are in need of a quick turn around.

2 Up- Washington Nationals

The Nats have been playing incredible baseball, including sweeping the NL West leading Arizona Diamondbacks. The Nationals have had their share of injuries to deal with. And they still have key contributors in the DL but have still been playing great they are 8-2 over their last ten games.

2 Down- Chicago White Sox

Now it was known at the beginning of the season that the White Sox would go through some tough stretches this season as they are rebuilding. However, over their last ten games, they have dropped eight of them and the White Sox have a run differential of -67. They are currently nine games back of the first place Cleveland Indians. They have a young team that will go through struggles and they are in the midst of one right now.

3 Up- Minnesota Twins

Though at the moment Twins are under .500 they have been playing better as of late. The Twins have won seven out of their last ten games and find themselves only one and a half games out of first place in the American League Central. The Twins have a young high energy filled team lead by the phenomenal Jose Berrios.

3 Down- Miami Marlins

Much like the Chicago White Sox the Miami Marlins were expected to be at the bottom of the National League. However, somehow if possible they are even worse than expected. The Marlins are essentially fielding a Quadruple-A team and they have the worse winning percentage in all of the MLB. In baseball’s most competitive division thus far they are a non-factor.

B.O.L.O- Philadelphia Phillies

The Phillies were expected to battle to be a .500 team. They, however, did not get that message. The Phillies find themselves second in the NL East and just one and a half games behind the Atlanta Braves. Phillies have won seven of their last ten games and have seemingly found themselves in a groove. Keep an eye out as this young team continues to develop this season. And as a club with plenty of payroll available they may find themselves quite active in the July trade market.
