3 Up and 3 Down: MLB Edition 5/8

This 2018 MLB season has been filled with some exciting storylines and amazing play from the different teams in the league. We will recap some of the teams that have been making both positive and negative impacts on this season.

1 Up- New York Yankees

The Yankees after starting out the season with a 9-9 record they have since gone 15-1 for an overall record of 24-10 before tonight’s series opener with the AL East Division leading Boston Red Sox. The Yankees will look to continue this hot stretch against Boston, en route to becoming the 2018 World Series champions.

1 Down- Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers are 15-19 going into tonight’s action against the NL West Division leading Arizona Diamondbacks. The Dodgers during their last ten games they have gone 4-6and fallen 8 games behind the DBacks. The Dodgers will have their depth tested as their superstar shortstop Corey Seager is now down for the rest of the season with Tommy John surgery. Clayton Kershaw was also just placed on the Disabled List with Biceps injury. The Dodgers will have a long way to go to get back to their ultimate goal of the World Series.

2 Up- Arizona Diamondbacks

The Dbacks have gotten off to a great start to the season. However, it was probably the most unexpected of all the 2017 playoff teams. Many speculated that their great play in 2017 was more so a lack of quality rather than the fact that they were a very good team. But this hot start is proof positive that this team is without question a serious contender going forward.

2 Down- Cincinnati Reds

The Reds have gotten off to the worst start in the Majors this season. They are currently in possession of an 8-27 record, that’s a winning percentage of .229 or a losing percentage for those who have a pessimistic outlook a .771 losing percentage. The Reds already made a management change and fired opening day manager Bryan Price. Yet, the play on the field has yet to change. The Reds are going to struggle all season.

3 Up- Boston Red Sox

The Red Sox got off to the best start in franchise history going 13-2 after their first 15 games of the season. The Red Sox much like the Yankees are looking to continue their winning ways when they take on the Yankees tonight in the Bronx.

3 Down- Baltimore Orioles

The Orioles were expected to try and compete this season after not trading Manny Machado this past off-season. However, look for Manny to be on the move at the deadline as Baltimore’s record stands at 8-26. The O’s have gone 2-8 in their last 10 games and are currently mired in a 6 game losing streak. The Orioles also have the largest deficit to overcome in a Division race as they are a full 17 games back behind the Boston Red Sox for the AL East Division crown.

B.O.L.O- Atlanta Braves

The Braves are in first place of the NL East Division half a game up on the Philadelphia Phillies. The Braves have dropped their last three games however, they still maintain a record of 19-14. The Braves have several young players that will be the anchors of the team going forward and thus their current standings can be viewed more as a foreshadowing than a lucky fluke.
